Seed, Petal, Wing
The Suspended Seed
A broad ring of fine, layered strokes encloses an empty white centre. From the top of the ring a dark tuft hangs down, thin tendrils trailing from it like roots or the stem of a seed pod, and just beneath it a small violet shape with a red centre floats alone like a bead or an eye. Everything seems to hang from the dark above. A red petal mark sits beside the signature at the lower right. The painting is suspended: nothing touches the ground, and its emptiness is as present as its darkness.
